Enduring Persecution

November 13, 2014  |  song selection

Yesterday’s service was a powerful message about our calling to endure persecution. Jason Myers, a PhD Student and friend of mine, preached the truth that there is a huge difference between being offended by someone and being persecuted. We in the United States know little of being persecuted for our beliefs. Anyways, I thought our musical selections fit very well with yesterday’s message and wanted to share them. Worship was led by an acoustic ensemble of acoustic guitar, cajon, and violin.

Opening Song of Praise: Marvelous Light (CCLI #4491002)

Introduction
Into marvelous light I’m running
Out of darkness out of shame
Through the cross You are the truth
You are the life You are the way

Verse 1
I once was fatherless
A stranger with no hope
Your kindness wakened me
Wakened me from my sleep
Your love it beckons deeply
A call to come and die
By grace now I will come
And take this life take Your life

Pre-Chorus
Sin has lost its power
Death has lost its sting
From the grave You’ve risen
Victoriously

Chorus
Into marvelous light I’m running
Out of darkness out of shame
Through the cross You are the truth
You are the life You are the way

Verse 2
My dead heart now is beating
My deepest stains now clean
Your breath fills up my lungs
Now I’m free now I’m free

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge
Lift my hands and spin around
See the light that I have found
Oh the marvelous light marvelous light

Chorus

Second Song of Praise: You Never Let Go (CCLI #4674116)

Verse 1
Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle
Of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back I know You are near

Pre-Chorus
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear
Whom then shall I fear

Chorus
Oh no You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no You never let go
In ev’ry high and ev’ry low
Oh no You never let go
Lord You never let go of me

Verse 2
And I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge
Yes I can see a light
That is coming for the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You
Still I will praise You

Chorus

Song of Response / Eucharist: Carried to the Table (CCLI#4681678)

Verse 1
Wounded and forsaken
I was shattered by the fall
Broken and forgotten
Feeling lost and all alone
Summoned by the King
Into the Master’s courts
Lifted by the Savior
And cradled in His arms

Chorus
I was carried to the table
Seated where I don’t belong
Carried to the table
Swept away by His love
And I don’t see my brokenness anymore
When I’m seated at the table of the Lord
I’m carried to the table
The table of the Lord

Verse 2
Fighting thoughts of fear
Wondering why He called my name
Am I good enough to share this cup
This world has left me lame
Even in my weakness
The Savior called my name
In His holy presence
I’m healed and unashamed

Chorus

Tag
You carried me my God
You carried me
You carried me my God
You carried me
